Description

Quick answer: A magnetic track power supply converts mains power into the 48V DC that a magnetic rail and its lights run on. Newon Star Lights offers it in 100W and 200W sizes, with a wide 100V to 240V AC input and built-in protection. Choose the size by adding up the wattage of all your lights and leaving about 20% spare.

The Magnetic Track Power Supply Behind Every Steady Rail

Rails and lights get all the attention. Most people choose the power supply last, and in a hurry. Yet it decides how the whole system behaves. A unit that is too small runs at its limit every time you switch on. It also leaves no room for the next light you add.

A well-sized unit works the other way. It runs comfortably within its limit, so you can grow the layout without replacing anything.

From Mains to 48V: What the Power Supply Does

A magnetic rail and the lights clipped to it run on 48V DC, a low voltage. They cannot take mains power directly, so the power supply stands between the two. It takes the mains in and gives out a steady 48V. It is also the only part of the system that connects to the mains. Everything on the rail side stays at low voltage.

Built for Steady Output: Key Features

Right voltage for the rail

A steady 48V DC output made for magnetic rails, which helps keep light output even along longer runs.

Two sizes

100W for smaller layouts and 200W for larger ones.

Wide input range

It accepts 100V to 240V AC, which helps when mains voltage varies.

Built-in protection

Short-circuit, over-voltage, over-temperature and overload protection guard the unit and your lights.

Compact metal housing

Small enough to tuck away out of sight, for example in a ceiling void.

Room to grow

Pick a size with spare capacity and add lights later without changing the power supply.

Choosing Between 100W and 200W: Sizing Your Magnetic Track Power Supply

Sizing takes two minutes and prevents most problems.

  1. Add up the wattage of every light you plan to put on the rail.
  2. Add about 20% on top, so the power supply never runs at its limit.
  3. Choose the size above that figure.
Example layout Total load With 20% spare Size to choose
3 linear lights at 18W and 4 at 6W 78W about 94W 100W
6 linear lights at 18W and 4 at 12W 156W about 187W 200W

If your total goes above what one 200W unit can carry, split the layout into separate rails. Give each rail its own power supply. Planning to add lights later? Count them now, so you do not have to swap the power supply afterwards.

Matching Voltage: Will Your Rail and Lights Suit This Power Supply?

This power supply gives out 48V DC, so the rail and the lights you connect must also be 48V. A 24V light on a 48V system can burn out, and a 48V light on a 24V system stays dim or off. Not sure about a rail or light from another brand? Send us the model on WhatsApp and we will check it.

The Rail to Pair with It

The power supply is one of three parts. You also need a rail to carry the power, and lights to click onto it. Our magnetic track aluminium profile is the rail made for this system, so the two are the simplest match.

Magnetic Track Lights vs Magnetic Track Power Supply: Which Part Does What?

What changes Magnetic track lights This magnetic track power supply
Role The lights that click onto the rail Converts mains power into 48V DC
What you decide Light type, beam and placement Size, 100W or 200W
After fitting Slide, swap or add by hand Stays in one place, within your reach
Connection Take 48V DC from the rail The only part that connects to the mains
Sold Sold separately This product

Both belong to the same system, and our magnetic track lights range brings the rail, the lights and the power supply together, so you can match them in one place.

Placing and Wiring the Power Supply

  1. Switch off the mains before you start.
  2. Choose a spot where you can reach the power supply later, with some air around it. Keep insulation away from it.
  3. Connect the 48V output to the power input of the rail.
  4. Connect the mains to the input side, following the markings on the unit.
  5. Switch on to test, then click the lights onto the rail.

Have a qualified electrician make the mains connection. Keep the unit dry.

Layouts That Call for a 48V Power Supply

Magnetic rails are popular in homes, shops and offices in Islamabad and other cities, and each layout needs a steady power supply.

Homes

Rails along living rooms, dining areas and hallways.

Shops and showrooms

Longer runs with many movable lights.

Offices

Steady power for desk and reception lighting.

Cafes and lounges

Layouts that grow as the space changes.

Questions Buyers Ask Before They Order

Which magnetic track power supply size do I need?

Add up the wattage of all your lights, add about 20%, and choose the size above that total. Send us your list of lights if you would like us to check it.

What happens if the power supply is too small?

It runs at its limit and has no room for more lights. Lights can dim or the unit can shut down to protect itself, so it is better to size up from the start.

Can one power supply run more than one rail?

Yes, as long as the combined wattage of all the lights on those rails stays within its rating, with spare capacity.

Does the power supply need to stay accessible?

Yes. Keep it where you can reach it later, so you can check or replace it without opening the ceiling again.

Can I use 24V lights with this power supply?

No. It gives out 48V DC, so the rail and the lights must be 48V.

What input voltage does it accept?

It accepts a wide 100V to 240V AC input, which helps when mains voltage varies.

What protection does the power supply have?

It has built-in short-circuit, over-voltage, over-temperature and overload protection.

Is a 200W power supply better than a 100W one?

Not by default. Choose by your load. A 100W unit with spare capacity is a better match than a 200W unit you do not need.
